Speakers' bios

Session title: ‘A strengths based approach to psychological wellbeing’.

Dr Roger Bretherton is Associate Professor in the School of Psychology, at the University of Lincoln. He is an HCPC accredited Clinical Psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is the director of Character Lab Lincoln, which conducts training, consultancy and research on the positive qualities of character related to psychological wellbeing and effective living. His research team is currently investigating the benefits of humility in leaders, the role of mindfulness in character development, a strengths-based approach to pro-environmental behaviours, the role of wisdom in business leadership, and character strengths in entrepreneurs. He has authored two books, and dozens of articles and book chapters, and is a reviewer for several leading academic journals in applied psychology. He delivers coaching, training and keynotes across a broad range of public and private sector organisations.

Session title:  ‘Physical Activity Prescription – Capitalising on lessons learnt from the pandemic’.

‘An experienced wellbeing practitioner with a passion for social prescription and promoting community and social mobilisation to tackle health inequalities for non-communicable disease.  A semi-finalist representing the University of Lincoln in the Santander Emerging Entrepreneurs Business Awards, Tina has worked with multiple individuals, and community health initiatives. More recently having conceptualised developed and received support for a digital primary care physical activity prescription model, during the pandemic Tina has embraced the use of digital platforms to provide socially inclusive wellbeing services and is passionate about ensuring lessons learnt during the pandemic are used to their full advantage to support development of strategic community-level services to meet local population needs’. 

Session title: ‘Sexual Health update—STI´s and Contraception’.

Dr Georgina Forbes BMBS has been a Specialty Doctor in sexual health since 2011. She graduated from Peninsula Medical school in 2009 and moved to Cardiff in 2012 where she has worked ever since.
She is a Faculty registered trainer for the diploma of sexual health, coils and implants and has the diploma of genitourinary medicine. Her special interests include medically complex contraception, increasing uptake of long acting contraception and recurrent thrush.

Session title: ‘Go To Rome’

Dr Helen Garr, aka The Wellbeing GP has over 5 years of experience working in student health as a GP at Nottingham University Health service and is a recognised leader in wellbeing. She is passionate about supporting the wellbeing of health care professionals and is Deputy Medical Director of NHS Practitioner Health, a National service supporting NHS Staff with mental health and addiction difficulties. Helen has a background in psychology and nursing prior to entering medicine and utilises her psychology interest to underpin her work as a coach and mentor for doctors. She is a Public Health England Clinical Champion for physical activity and a Director of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. She is also Nottinghamshire LMC Wellbeing lead and sits on the RCGP National wellbeing working group and BMA wellbeing stakeholders committee. Alongside her keen interest in wellbeing, Helen can be found running half marathons (slowly), walking her chocolate Labrador called Eileen and can be found on social media @TheWellbeingGP.

Session title: ‘Social Prescribing: A paradigm shift in our discussion on student mental health and wellbeing’.

My name is Thomas George and I am a researcher and lecturer in the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Lincoln. I am a co-chair for the KCL Student Mental Health Research ECR Group (SMaRteN), I also sit on the Lincolnshire county-wide Social Prescribing Steering Group and I am a member of the University of Lincoln Health Service Patient Participation Group which Dr Ruth Challenor Chairs. I am currently undertaking a 5-year part-time PhD at the University of Lincoln to explore the role of social prescribing for UK university students with poor mental health. In my spare time I am a Run Director for Doddington Hall parkrun, Lincoln.

Session title: ‘Are we biased in how we counsel younger women for contraception?’

Dr Diana Mansour is a Consultant in Community Gynaecology and Reproductive Health Care and Associate Clinical Lecturer at the University of Newcastle since 1997. In addition Dr Mansour is the Senior Vice President for the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. Dr Mansour was the first accredited subspecialty trainee in Community Gynaecology and Reproductive Health Care of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Dr Mansour is first author to over 90 peer-reviewed publications and has most recently published in Contraception and the BMJ SRH. Dr Mansour’s areas of expertise include acceptability of contraceptive methods, non-contraceptive benefits of contraception, development of long-term methods of contraception, changes in health service provision, medical management of menstrual disorders and management of the menopause.
